LIFE IN THE GULF: How do Kenyans live in the Middle East? (VIDEO)
A Kenyan living in the Gulf countries has shared numerous videos that debunk the myth that they all live in luxury.
Instagram user @kaawangui shed light on the lesser-known struggles that some Kenyans endure.
One of the clips showed the room where he sleeps. It was furnished with numerous double-decker beds and worn-out mattresses.
The limited space resulted in a cluttered room. He then went to a communal bathroom, similar to those found in Kenyan high schools.
They prepare meals in the same space where they sleep, and @kaawangui shared a video demonstrating how.
“I think this food might be spoilt,” he said before throwing away the meal after heating it.
In one segment of the video, @kaawangui stated that the agent who took him abroad promised he would live like a king.
In another video, the Kenyan was seen inspecting his bed, claiming he was looking for bedbugs.
Despite the hardships, @kaawangui was determined to live life to the fullest.
“Life is not easy, so you have to be strong. But I am carefree; I don’t have stress,” he said, referring to his lower bunk as a mansion.
His most memorable quotation was: “Umia hapa nyumbani ukae na starehe (Suffer here so you can live lavishly back home).”
Kenyans responded to the video by writing:
In conclusion, unless you are a diplomat, be a workhorse in a foreign land and keep in mind that putting your earnings into savings shouldn’t be an option but the ONLY OPTION.
Looking out for yourself and those from your backyard should also be a priority. BE YOUR BROTHER’S KEEPER!
