Okang’a was apprehended on Tuesday, June 11, during an operation at his home in Kayole.

He was later taken to DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road for questioning after being accused of running suspicious accounts with posts deemed harmful to the state.
Virginia Kariuki, the prosecution counsel, stated that the comments were made by a number of TikTok and YouTube accounts.
Other posts, which are considered threatening and may contribute to disruptions affecting peace, order, and public safety, were published on a number of websites associated with the suspect.
Okang’a is also being investigated for cyber harassment, which violates the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act.
While appearing in Milimani Law Courts, the judge ordered that he be detained at the Muthaiga police station so that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) could complete its investigations.
Publishing false information is part of the crime.
Following an interrogation, the police determined that the suspect was a serial offender. The case is scheduled for mention on June 18, 2024.
The arrest comes months after Okang’a was detained in November of last year and charged with spreading false information via a YouTube channel.
At the time, the post was said to target President William Ruto and was “calculated to discredit the reputation of a state officer and that intend to provoke a breach of the peace.”
In a video posted earlier that month, Okanga was heard threatening the President and some of his allies, complaining that the current government was undermining the opposition.
According to the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act of 2018, anyone found guilty of spreading false information online faces a Ksh5 million fine, five years in prison or both.
