An Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (L.H.D.) is a degree conferred upon individuals who have made significant contributions to society through their work or service.
It is given to individuals who have distinguished themselves through humanitarian and philanthropic contributions to society.
The criteria for awarding degrees vary by institution.
It is typically given to individuals from outside the university who have been invited to speak as keynote speakers at the most important university events, such as graduation, or to faculty members.
