SCHOOL FIRE: Oma John Mbadi Secondary’s Dormitory Razed Down

A fire broke out early Wednesday morning at Oma John Mbadi Mixed Secondary School in Suba, Homa Bay County, disrupting learning for students.

During the incident, a dormitory was completely burned down and millions of dollars in property was destroyed. School administrators revealed that approximately 65 students spent the night in the dormitory.

Suba Deputy County Commissioner Sebastian Okiring told journalists that the inferno broke out around 7 a.m., while students were in their classrooms going about their regular learning activities.

The cause of the fire had yet to be determined as of Wednesday noon.

“At least 60 boxes that contained student belongings were destroyed,” the official stated.

He later revealed that law enforcement authorities will conduct detailed investigations, including interrogating the possibility of whether the latest incident is a case of arson.

Images of the early morning incident showed a dormitory engulfed in flames and smoke billowing from the building.

A group of students at the learning institution were shown watching helplessly as the situation unfolded.

It has been confirmed that police officers have arrived at the institution to investigate the cause of the fire.

The latest incident adds to the long list of fires reported in schools across the country in the last week.

The fire at John Mbadi Secondary School occurred following a fire report at Isiolo Boys High School on Tuesday evening. Passers-by were shown staring in disbelief as property of unknown value went up in smoke.

The fire at Isiolo Boys occurred three days after a dormitory at Isiolo Girls was destroyed by a raging inferno.

A fire had been reported at Yemit Boys High School the previous day. A few hours later, another fire was reported at Father Makewa School in Machakos County.

President William Ruto has already directed security agencies to expedite investigations into the causes of widespread fire incidents in schools.

“Compliance with government regulations on curbing fire accidents in learning institutions is not negotiable,” the Head of State posted on September 10.

“This is the only insurance we have to effectively prevent the loss of life and limb in schools.”

This came after the President received a report from the Ministry of Education regarding the fire incident at Hillside Endarasha.
