“Reduce Cost Of Data, M-Pesa Charges!” – Senator Khalwale Tells Safaricom
Kakamega County Senator Boniface Khalwale, often known as the Bull Fighter, has come up to speak on behalf of millions of Kenyans who rely on Safaricom as their primary telecoms service provider.
On Friday, November 7, 2025, Khalwale asked on his X account how Safaricom managed to make such enormous profits while most Kenyans are battling with high living costs.
The senator’s statements came hours after Safaricom Group Plc reported a record profit of Ksh42.8 billion for the half-year ending September 31, 2025, a 52% increase over the previous quarter.
In a harshly worded statement, Khalwale said the company’s profits were “obscene” and an indication of “profiteering” that exploited ordinary Kenyans who rely on Fuliza, M-Pesa, and mobile data.
“Kenyans deserve protection from this exploitation! Obscene profits like these are clearly a case of profiteering that can exist only in a black market.
“The cost of data, Fuliza, and M-Pesa must be drastically cut,” Khalwale said.

He urged authorities and the government to step in and ensure the telecommunications behemoth lowers the cost of its financial and data services.
