SHA Cautions Kenyans Over Rampant Fraud Of Impostors
The Social Health Authority (SHA) has published a public notice alerting Kenyans about fraudsters impersonating its employees and duping unsuspecting members of the public.
The notification, dated November 6, 2025, expresses worry about a growing tendency of crooks claiming to aid with registration or speed up SHA services for a price.
According to a statement signed by Chief Executive Officer Dr Mercy Mwangangi, the authority is “deeply saddened and concerned to learn that some members of the public have been defrauded by criminals impersonating SHA employees and conning unsuspecting Kenyans by claiming they can help with registration or speed up SHA services for a fee.”
The organization stated that trust in its employees is critical, and it “pains us greatly that dishonest individuals would exploit that trust for their own gain.”

The SHA underlined that its workers never ask for money to provide services or get a member’s personal information, such as their M-Pesa PIN.
The authority encouraged victims or anyone solicited by suspected scammers to immediately notify the police and SHA via its hotline 147 or the dedicated email address fraud@sha.go.ke.
“Your safety, dignity, and confidence in our healthcare system matter deeply to us,” the notice reads.
The government also stated that it is striving to safeguard communities from “these malicious acts.”
SHA provided several clarifications. Registration is free, and Kenyans should not pay anyone who offers to help with registration or updating personal information.

Assisted registration is only available through designated channels, such as county offices, Huduma Centres, and locally identified Community Health Promoters wearing branded vests.
The authority stressed that SHA donations can only be paid through the official M-Pesa business number 200222 or specified banks as indicated by SHA.
Members of the public were advised not to disclose their PINs or provide their phones to anyone purporting to assist with registration.
