ODM Principal Demands Ruto To Use Party For 2027 Elections

ODM Deputy Party Leader Simba Arati has delivered a subtle warning to President William Ruto, asking that he run on the ODM platform.

Arati, one of ODM’s staunchest supporters, addressed a delegates’ gathering, reiterating that the party would form government in 2027.

While the Kisii governor had no objections to President William Ruto being re-elected, he was adamant that Ruto run on the ODM ticket.

“For now, we are together with Ruto, but come 2027, we will ask some questions,” Arati said.

Arati further said that because ODM was the party that launched Ruto’s political career, it was only natural for the UDA leader to run for a second term on an ODM ticket.

“We have unanimously decided that as ODM we will form government in 2027. We will ask President Ruto to join ODM since it was the big party which he helped form,” he added.

ODM was formed from a 2005 constitutional referendum in which Kenyans were invited to vote on a proposed new constitution.

Raila and Ruto, who were opposed to the constitution, publicly rejected it, using the now-famous Orange emblem to indicate “no”.

On Sunday, December 14, Arati went on a tour to Iten in Elgeyo Marakwet to stir up support for ODM, bringing the town to a halt with a lengthy convoy ahead of a delegates’ conference.

Following the meeting, Arati reiterated ODM’s commitment to the broad-based spirit and urged the party to remain together.

This is not the first time Arati has called on President Ruto to rejoin ODM.

Days after the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Arati extended an olive branch to the president, saying if Ruto rejoined the party, he would automatically be its flag bearer in 2027.

His remarks were in response to Ruto’s promise that he would ensure ODM remains steadfast even after the death of the party’s beloved leader, Raila Odinga.

Arati has also previously reaffirmed his commitment to preserving Raila’s legacy, as he described the former Prime Minister as a guiding light who was integral in helping shape Kenya’s political direction.
