Kenya To Boost Local Defence Manufacturing After High-Level Egypt Visit

Kenya has taken a step toward increasing defence manufacturing capability following a high-level visit to Egypt by top officials from the Directorate of National Security Industries (DNSI).

The group, led by DNSI Director General Major General Faustino Lobaly, was made up of senior officers dedicated to strengthening Kenya-Egypt bilateral defence industry cooperation.

During the visit on December 20, the Kenyan group visited various significant Egyptian defence and security manufacturing facilities to get firsthand knowledge of Egypt’s military industrial capabilities.

Among the facilities visited were the Arab International Optronics (AIO) Company and the Engineering Industries Complex, both of which play important roles in Egypt’s defence production environment.

The delegation also met with officials from Egypt’s Ministry of Military Production (MoMP), which is in charge of the country’s defence production and industrial policy.

The MoMP played an important role in policymaking and coordinated the Director General of DNSI’s visits to other firms.

Additional trips were made to the Kader and Helwan Factories for Developed Industries, which manufacture a wide range of military equipment and modern defence technology.

The engagements were carried out in accordance with the Kenya-Egypt Joint Military Cooperation Agreement, which governs the two nations’ defence coordination.

Officials noted that the visit provided vital insights into Egypt’s production capabilities, technological capacity, and operational frameworks in the defense industry.

According to the DNSI delegation, the engagements strengthened mutual understanding of Kenya and Egypt’s defence industrial posture and strategic priorities.

The visit was intended to establish a solid foundation for enhanced collaboration, including technology exchange, skills development, and potential joint defence industry initiatives.

Kenya has increasingly prioritised the growth of its domestic defence manufacturing sector, with the Egypt visit signalling a broader push to leverage international partnerships to build sustainable local capacity.
