IEBC Issues New Directive On Voter Registration For 2027 Elections

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has stated that Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will be resumed in chosen constituencies across Kenya.

This comes ahead of the 2027 General Elections, which are due to commence on Monday, January 12, 2026.

The reinstatement affects locations where CVR had previously been suspended to allow for the November 27, 2025, by-elections.

The constituencies covered a wide span, from Magarini, Galole, and Fafi on the coast to Machakos Town, Turkana North and West, Samburu North, Moiben, and Keiyo.

Additional constituencies include Ugunja, Chesumei, Tiaty, Baringo North, Baringo Central, Baringo South, Mogotio, Eldama Ravine, Narok North, Kajiado Central, Khwisero, Kabuchai, Kasipul, West Mugirango, North Mugirango, Borabu, and Embakasi North.

The IEBC indicated that the action is intended to allow eligible Kenyans who missed previous registration efforts to enroll and update their voter information in time for the 2027 elections.

Individuals in affected areas have been reminded to verify that their information is correct and up to date.

Continuous Voter Registration is an important feature of Kenya’s election process since it allows for the rolling registration of residents who reach voting age, relocate, or want to update their personal information on the voter roll.

The November 27, 2025, by-elections led to the temporary suspension of CVR in affected areas to maintain electoral integrity and prevent manipulation of voter data during the polling period.

Eligible Kenyans can register or update their information at constituency registration centers using national identity cards, with the exercise set to run from Monday to Friday every week from 8am to 5pm.

IEBC has also urged the public to check their registration status online or at local offices to avoid last-minute complications ahead of the 2027 elections.

The commission stressed that participation in CVR is critical to ensuring every eligible citizen exercises their right to vote and that delays in registration could affect access to polling stations during the general elections.

Meanwhile, the commission announced that Continuous Voter Registration and regular revision of the voters’ roll will be suspended in Mbeere North and Malava Constituencies due to ongoing election petitions.
