LAST DANCE! Senegal’s Sadio Mané Hints At Retirement After AFCON
Sadio Mané, Senegal’s skipper, has hinted that his glittering Africa Cup of Nations adventure has come to an end, referring to the just-finished tournament as his “last dance” at AFCON.
In an emotional press conference following Senegal’s thrilling victory, the former Liverpool star reflected on his future with the national team.
“Unfortunately, this is my last dance [at AFCON], but I will be the 12th man to support them,” Mané said.
He stated that, while his time on the AFCON pitch may be finished, his dedication to the Lions of Teranga remains unshakeable.

Mané, who has played an important leadership role throughout the tournament, believes African football deserves improved organisation and officiating, especially after the wild scenes in the final.
Despite the hurdles, he remained enthusiastic about the continent’s game.
“African football deserves more than this,” he said, while praising the steady progress being made across the continent.
According to Mané, the quality, competition, and global recognition for African football have all increased dramatically in recent years.

Fans, players, and analysts praised his contribution in guiding the Lions of Teranga to one of the tournament’s most dramatic finishes.
As tempers boiled in the last minutes of regulation time following a contentious penalty decision in favor of hosts Morocco, Mané emerged as a calming figure in a visibly anxious Senegal team.
While players surrounded match officials and some headed toward the tunnel in protest, the veteran forward stayed behind, appealing to his teammates to remain composed and allow the match to continue.
Television footage later showed Mané gesturing emphatically, urging restraint at a moment when the final threatened to descend into abandonment.

Even as boos rained down from the stands, Mané continued to encourage his teammates, reminding them of what was at stake.
When Senegal eventually returned to the pitch, his leadership helped refocus the side just in time for goalkeeper Edouard Mendy’s crucial save from Brahim Diaz’s penalty – a turning point that swung momentum decisively in Senegal’s favour.
Beyond the dramatic finale, Mané’s contribution throughout the match was also lauded.
After the final whistle, tributes poured in across social media and broadcast platforms, with many describing Mané as the embodiment of leadership on the biggest stage.
