UK Couple Takes Gruesome Road Trip From London to Nairobi
A British YouTube couple has chosen the ultimate test of endurance, foregoing a pleasant six-hour flight in favor of an exhausting 23,000-kilometer overland adventure to Kenya.
A direct journey from London to Nairobi on major carriers normally lasts between eight hours 35 minutes and nine hours, covering approximately 6,800 km, but the pair selected a rather more adventurous path.
The two set out on an epic car trip from London to Nairobi, crossing multiple continents and tackling some of Africa’s most difficult terrain.
Their ambitious voyage began 21 days ago, on December 28, 2025, with a boat crossing to France, signaling the beginning of an excursion that would challenge their limits.

The couple is currently in Dakhla, Morocco, having traveled through Spain and Mauritania’s huge Sahara Desert before arriving on the coast of West Africa.
Their itinerary takes them through Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, and Côte d’Ivoire, then through Lagos before heading inland into Cameroon, Congo, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The voyage then continues south via Angola and Namibia before swinging east through Botswana and Zimbabwe to reach Mozambique’s magnificent Indian Ocean coastline for a breathtaking stretch.
The final part takes them northward along Lake Malawi through Tanzania, ending in Nairobi, where they intend to spend quality time seeing Kenya’s numerous attractions.
For this expedition, the couple selected a Toyota Land Cruiser, widely regarded as the gold standard vehicle for long-distance overland travel across Africa’s terrain.
The vehicle’s renowned dependability minimises the risk of breakdowns in remote areas where recovery services and spare parts are scarce or hard to find.
After travelling from one country to another, the couple performs regular maintenance on their vehicle, replacing damaged parts to ensure continued reliability throughout their journey.
The couple is estimated to spend between Ksh1.3 million and Ksh2 million on fuel alone for the entire 23,000-kilometre journey, with varying prices across different countries.
To save money on accommodation, the couple carried a comprehensive camping toolkit, enabling them to avoid expensive hotels and lodges along the route.
