Gov’t Deploys KDF To Mukogodo Forest To Curb Banditry

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will be sent to combat escalating banditry in Mukogodo Forest, Laikipia County, the government declared.

Soipan Tuya, the Defence Cabinet Secretary, told citizens in insecure areas that the military is fully prepared to support anti-bandit operations.

The CS spoke on Friday at the Laikipia North Women Empowerment Forum in Il Polei, Laikipia North.

Tuya said that the government has budgeted Ksh1 million to unlock road networks, which will allow multi-agency security teams to pursue cattle rustlers and armed gangs.

The assurance came after lawmakers raised concerns over delays in deploying KDF officers to a temporary camp in Doldol, Laikipia County, to deal with the banditry and rising insecurity in the region.

“The KDF officers will coordinate closely with the National Police Service. The President has instructed that all banditry activities and insecurity will be eliminated,” Tuya said.

“This operation will ensure a full-proof, multi-agency presence in every affected area of Laikipia County.”

Residents and leaders in Samburu County were also urged to support the upcoming security operation targeting insecurity and cattle rustling in the region.

Already, the Ministry of Interior has officially declared parts of Laikipia, Meru, and Isiolo counties as security-disturbed and dangerous.

Ahead of the deployment, Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Abdi Hassan chaired a multi-agency security meeting at the Doldol Deputy County Commissioner’s Office.

The forum included KDF and other key security stakeholders to review the prevailing situation and devise practical measures for stability.

Discussions focused on improving inter-agency coordination, strengthening ongoing operations, and addressing the persistent threat of banditry.

During the meeting, the stakeholders emphasised timely intelligence sharing, joint planning, and synchronised responses to restore peace and order.

This deployment marks the second time KDF has been sent to the region, following previous operations that drew criticism.
