‘Gachagua MUST Record Statement Over Al-Shabaab Remarks!’ – CS Murkomen Declares

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has ordered that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua make a testimony to security services.

This follows Gachagua’s statements linking key leaders to suspected meetings with al-Shabaab militants.

Gachagua, who is presently on tour in the United States, reportedly stated that a top official met with al-Shabaab representatives in Mandera and allegedly signed a commercial arrangement with the outlawed group.

Murkomen described Gachagua’s charges as “insensitive” and “damaging” to the country’s image during a meeting with Deputy President Kiture Kindiki.

He was speaking in Keiyo South Constituency at an Economic Empowerment Event for Small-Scale Traders and Boda Boda SACCOs.

“When you (DP Kindiki) were the Minister for Interior, you carried yourself with utmost respect for this country and the people of Kenya,” Murkomen said.

“I saw another man who sat where you were sitting the other day, disparaging our country, talking about issues of insecurity as though it’s a joke,” he added.

“To the extent that he thinks he can parade issues of terrorism in America for political mileage is unacceptable.”

Murkomen insisted that Gachagua give evidence for his assertions upon his return to the nation.

“Your Excellency (Kindiki), we want to say without fear of contradiction, because he has said he has information and knows who was in meetings with al-Shabaab, that as soon as he lands in Kenya, he must record a statement to tell us exactly what meetings he is talking about,” Murkomen said.

The CS condemned what he termed as foolish statements made by leaders seeking political gain at the price of national security, emphasizing that Kenya’s fight against terrorism should not be politicized.

“This country we have joked for far too long. We must carry ourselves with the responsibility that comes with public office,” Murkomen added.

“If you aspire to lead, you must safeguard the integrity and security of the nation.”

Kindiki, for his part, stated that security services must take action against the former DP who made terrorist charges during his current journey to the United States.

“I hear there is a leader who spoke outside the country and said he had information which can help us in fighting Al Shabab because they have details on who and where plans to terrorise Kenya are being made,” said Kindiki.

He stated that anyone with such information must be required to record statements with the appropriate agencies so that the matter can be probed.

He stated that Kenya had suffered greatly as a result of terrorism and that security problems should not be trivialized or politicized for personal advantage.

“We can not allow anyone to sabotage our national security or go around speaking carelessly. We must distinguish national security from everyday politics,” said Kindiki.
