They were, then, transferred to the Kakamega Police Station, where they are currently being kept awaiting arraignment.
According to the police chief, the two MCAs allegedly funded the goons who caused havoc and attacked journalists and police officers during the protests.
“We have today arrested 53 people, and yesterday we arrested ten people, that is a total of 63 people. Among them is a suspect believed to have attacked a female police officer,” said Mahamoud.
“We have also arrested two MCAs, they are the ones who were funding the goons, but we are yet to know on whose behalf they were distributing the money,” the police boss added.
Mahamoud stated that investigations were still ongoing to identify the primary suspects in the assault, which injured several police officers and journalists.
The county police chief added that a special team of investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters in Nairobi had been dispatched to assist with the investigations.
