Tragedy In Kericho As Education Officer, Daughter Killed in House Fire
Jackline Cheruiyot, 42, and her eight-year-old daughter were killed after a fire destroyed their home in Poiwek village, Kericho district, on Sunday night.
Cheruiyot, an education official serving in Chemosot Ward, Bureti Sub-county, was well-known in the area, and her death has shocked the community.
Cheruiyot was a mother of three, according to family members, with her two surviving children escaping the fire and now in need of support in the aftermath of the tragedy.
According to Jackline’s brother, Patrick Kiprotich, neighbours raced to the house after hearing screams and sought to help the victims.

According to one of the victims, Nixon Kipngeno, the fire spread quickly, destroying the house, vehicles, and water tanks before it could be extinguished.
Kerich noted that the fire ruined her children’s school books and study tools, exacerbating the family’s difficulties.
Residents voiced concern about what they described as an increase in fire occurrences in the area this month, urging authorities to intervene.
In response, Kericho County Police Commander James Ngetich confirmed that detectives are investigating both incidents and urged residents to ensure electrical and gas appliances are safe to prevent similar tragedies.
