Pope Leo Breaks Silence On U.S-Israel Attack On Iran, Calls For Diplomacy

Pope Leo XIV has issued an urgent appeal for Middle Eastern peace talks amidst unrelenting back-and-forth bombing.

The Pope appealed for calm and dialogue in the aftermath of a devastating military operation that murdered Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday, February 28.

In the midst of this instability, Pope Leo XIV spoke boldly, emphasizing that stability and peace cannot be attained through reciprocal threats or the use of arms, which only lead to ruin.

“Stability and peace are not achieved through mutual threats, nor through the use of weapons, which sow destruction, suffering, and death, but only through reasonable, sincere, and responsible dialogue,” stated Pope Leo.

He instead advocated for “reasonable, sincere, and responsible dialogue,” urging all parties to take a step back before the situation worsens irreversibly.

“I make a heartfelt appeal to all the parties involved to assume the moral responsibility of halting the spiral of violence before it becomes an unbridgeable chasm,” the Pope warned.

His remarks come at a time when tensions in the Middle East have reached a tipping point, raising widespread international fear about the likelihood of a larger, more deadly conflict.

On the night of February 28, Operation Epic Fury, as the US titled it, and Roar of the Lion, as Israel called it, targeted Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei’s office in the Beit Rahbari compound in central Tehran, killing him and several other key leaders on the spot.

The operation deployed bunker-buster munitions to simultaneously target Iran’s political leadership, military infrastructure, and nuclear facilities.

More than 200 individuals were killed and hundreds more injured around Iran, including prominent IRGC commanders and members of Khamenei’s own family.

Pope Leo ended by calling for diplomacy to be restored to its rightful place in international affairs amidst the conflict.

The Pope insisted that the well-being of ordinary people who simply want to live in peace must be protected.

He also called for Christian faithfuls around the world to also pray for the other war-torn countries, such as Ukraine, Gaza, and Pakistan.
