Israel Imposes Travel Bans on Kenya, THREE Other Countries Over Ebola Outbreak

Following concerns of an Ebola outbreak and spread, Israel has issued a travel restriction on people from five African countries: Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Israel’s Border Control Department issued a notification to airlines on June 10, 2026, prohibiting affected visitors from boarding planes bound for Israel.

The limitations also apply to foreign nationals from any country who have visited one of the mentioned nations within 21 days of their scheduled trip to Israel.

“To all airlines, following the outbreak of the Ebola virus, effective from the receipt of this notice, you are prohibited from boarding foreign passengers who meet the criteria specified below on flights bound for Israel,” read part of the notice.

“You are required to prevent foreign citizens and residents of the following countries from boarding flights arriving in Israel,” the notice added.

Airlines were obliged to examine passengers before departure to see whether they had recently visited or traveled through the impacted nations.

According to the Israeli government, anyone found to have recently visited the restricted countries, including Kenya, must be denied boarding.

However, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration noted that the restrictions do not apply to Israeli citizens or permanent residents.

“For the avoidance of doubt, this directive does not apply to Israeli citizens or Israeli residents,” the Border Control Department clarified.

“Your strict compliance with these directives and your cooperation are highly appreciated.”

The directive comes as several governments continue to tighten border controls and enhance health screening in response to the Ebola outbreak that has spread across parts of Central Africa.

Several countries, including the United States and the United Arab Emirates, have recently introduced similar travel restrictions.

They have also enhanced monitoring measures for travellers arriving from affected regions.

Nonetheless, the Israeli government has not indicated how long the restrictions will remain in place, but it is anticipated that measures will be reviewed in line with developments surrounding the Ebola outbreak.
