Kenya’s Angella Okutoyi Relocates To London To Launch Professional Tennis Career
Angella Okutoyi, a 22-year-old Kenyan tennis star, has come to London to begin the next phase of her career, where she will train and compete full-time on the professional circuit.
Okutoyi will relocate to south-west London, near Wimbledon, in late June 2026 to pursue her dream of competing in the world’s premier tennis events.
The move comes just weeks after Okutoyi graduated from Auburn University in the United States, where she combined studies and a successful collegiate tennis career.
“I had a wonderful time at College, made some great friends, earned my degree, and improved my game substantially,” Okutoyi said.
“Now I feel fully ready to take on the big world of professional tennis.”

Okutoyi heads to London as one of Kenya’s most accomplished tennis players.
She made history in 2022 after becoming the first Kenyan to win a Grand Slam title after clinching the Wimbledon Girls’ Doubles Championship.
She added another milestone to her career in 2024 after becoming the first Kenyan woman in 46 years to win the singles gold medal at the African Games.
This further cemented her status as one of the country’s leading tennis stars.
Her final season at Auburn University also proved successful after she partnered with Egypt’s Merna Refaat to earn ITA Doubles All-American honours for the 2025/2026 season.

The pair finished the campaign ranked seventh nationally in the U.S., compiling an impressive 19-4 record during the spring season, including a dominant 6-1 run in the Southeastern Conference.
Their performances helped Auburn University reach the NCAA national finals for the first time in the institution’s history, marking another major achievement in Okutoyi’s career before turning professional.

Now based near the famous Wimbledon grounds, Okutoyi will train under an experienced coaching team comprising former Zimbabwean stars Wayne Black and Cara Black, as well as coach Brett Stephens.
Okutoyi’s immediate schedule begins with a tournament in Aschaffenburg, Germany, where she will defend the doubles title she won in 2025 alongside American player Rasheeda McAdoo.
She will then return to the United Kingdom for four tournaments over five weeks as she continues building her ranking on the professional tour.
The youthful athlete hopes to improve her ranking sufficiently to qualify for the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open in 2027.
She also plans to defend her African Games gold medal in Egypt in January 2027 before targeting qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Okutoyi hopes to become the first Kenyan tennis player to compete at the Summer Olympics.
