Missing Catholic Nun Found Dead In Convent Sewer In Rongo
A trainee Catholic nun who went missing from Rongo Catholic Church on Thursday, October 24, was discovered dead in a sewer pit at the Rongo parish sister convent.
According to Homa Bay diocese vicar general Gabriel Atieno, the deceased’s body, aged 23, was discovered floating inside a sewer pit within the sister convent by a nun on her way to the farm.
Father Atieno stated that after Yvonne Jirangwa went missing on October 24, the sisters reported the incident to the Rongo police station after unsuccessful efforts to locate her throughout the day.
Her body was discovered on Sunday, October 27 in the afternoon.

The vicar general stated that they have yet to determine what happened before the death of the trainee nun, who had been in Rongo parish for three years.

He stated that the deceased had been very active in community services during her time in Rongo, and her death is a blow to both the church and the family.
He stated that the church is working closely with the police to determine the cause of her death.
Salim Fundi, Rongo sub-county police commander, said the church reported the trainee sister’s disappearance, and police attempted to locate her before discovering her body in the sewer pit.
Fundi stated that the deceased’s body has been moved to Rosewood Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy and police investigations.
