‘I miss NHIF!’ – Vocal ODM Senator Lays Bare SHA Hardships
Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has emphasized Kenyans’ challenges with the Social Health Authority (SHA) in terms of receiving health care.
On Friday, December 6, 2024, Ledama stated via his official X account that he had received numerous messages from residents over the previous 8 months, but the one that broke his heart was regarding the new healthcare coverage.

He went on to say that one person phoned him and urged him to help Kenyans fleeing SHA, citing the fact that they had lost their former health insurance coverage through the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
“In the past 8 months, I have received very many messages from citizens but the saddest of all is this one ‘Senator I miss NHIF, please help us’,” he wrote.

President William Ruto promised Kenyans that under his leadership, SHA will be free of corruption, establishing the groundwork for a transformational and reliable healthcare system.
On Thursday, the Head of State spoke at the Kilifi International Investment Conference in Vipingo.
In addition, the Head of State stated that SHA was carefully established to combat corruption, notably in procurement processes.

“The challenges of fraud and corruption that crippled the NHIF will never be part of our universal healthcare plan as long as I am in charge,” Ruto assured Kenyans.
Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa and other sector stakeholders testified before the Kamukunji on Tuesday, December 3, to update members of parliament on the progress made in the transition from NHIF to SHA.
The public, through their elected officials, has expressed worry about the teething problems encountered during the medical scheme’s implementation.
“MPs have raised concerns from the electorate regarding some of teething problems in the implementation of the programme,” Wetang’ula said.
