Hussein Mohammed, the recently elected president of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), has extended gratitude to FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for overseeing the recent FKF elections.

Mohammed took to his X account on Monday to praise the international and continental football governing bodies for their efforts to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.

“A big thank you to the FIFA and the Confederation of African Football delegations for overseeing this crucial election,” Mohammed said.

“Our gratitude also goes to the FKF Electoral Board for managing a high-stakes process with professionalism and fairness. Despite the emotions and expectations, you delivered brilliantly.”

He also acknowledged the expectations surrounding Kenyan football and highlighted the importance of fast action.

“Asanteni sana. It’s now time to roll up our sleeves and begin the work needed to bring about the transformation that Kenyan football has been longing for,” he added.

Hussein Mohammed was elected as the new FKF president on December 7 in a fiercely contested election held at Moi Stadium in Kasarani.

Mohammed was voted as vice president alongside former Kenya international McDonald Mariga, receiving 42 out of 90 votes.

Dorris Petra and her running mate, Nick Mwendwa, garnered 31 votes, finishing second.

Former FKF CEO Barry Otieno received 10 votes, putting him in third place.

Cleophas Shimanyula finished fourth with 4 votes.

The election was initially forced into a runoff between the top three candidates, but Petra and Otieno withdrew.
