Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has directed his allies in Parliament to assemble a team of lawyers who will write to the International Criminal Court.

Gachagua wants the government to be held accountable for funding a criminal gang in a country notorious for perpetrating crimes against humanity.

Speaking at a church service in Nyeri County on Sunday, Gachagua claimed that the criminal gang has been terrorizing the Mount Kenya region and has been reorganized by the government to wreak havoc.

“In the late 80s during the reign of President Moi, the government destroyed the economy and became very intolerant and dictatorial. When the people of this region started saying no a criminal gang was formed to come and punish the people,” Gachagua claimed.

“This gang is known to have committed crimes against humanity. Now with the sponsorship of the government, they have come back and for sure they have started.”

The deposed DP went on to recount how the group allegedly stormed a community in Nyeri County in 2009 and killed 29 people before raping women and committing other crimes.

He claimed that it took the involvement of the late Interior Minister, John Michuki, to end their existence.

Gachagua therefore directed his allies, led by Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia, to demand an ICC investigation and bring the murderers to justice.

“Document the atrocities that were committed by the criminal gang in the 90s because those were crimes against humanity and start engaging the ICC,” Gachagua added.

The former DP further chastised the National Police Service (NPS) for allegedly facilitating the gang’s existence rather than protecting Kenyans.

He has advised President William Ruto to remain watchful and not fall victim to the group, as he will be held guilty for any harm they create.

Gachagua also delved into the growing clamor on abductions, blaming the state for turning a blind eye to the subject, while families of missing youths continued in misery and others turned up dead.

He has waged a bare-knuckle attack on the state since being removed from office in October 2024, chastising authorities for lack of integrity and charging them with aiding the nation’s crises, especially the continuous abductions.

He was accompanied by his wife Dorcas Rigathi, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia, former Nyeri town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, County Assembly members led by Speaker James Gichuhi, and other leaders.
