The daughter of a former Kenyan minister has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide in Washington, United States, for killing two people while driving on the wrong side of the road.
Candy Soita was arrested on Sunday after an incident occurred on westbound SR 512 near Canyon Road East around 2:15 a.m., US time.
According to reports, Soita was driving in the wrong direction on the road when she collided with another vehicle carrying three American soldiers, two of whom were killed.
Ms Soita had her one-year-old daughter in the car.
The soldiers who died have since been identified as Spc. Charles T. Fairbairn, 29, and Spc. Wendell T. Cerio, 22.
Soita and her child escaped with minor injuries, and the surviving soldier is recovering at a local hospital.
According to Seattle’s King5 News, Washington State Patrol (WSP) troopers arrived on the scene and transported Soita and her daughter to a hospital for treatment.
However, the troopers detected the scent of alcohol on Soita’s breath, prompting them to conduct an intoxication test.
Her breath test resulted in a.097 approximately four hours after the collision.
