[DETAILS] Ruto’s Phone Call Discussion With Egyptian President
President William Ruto called Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Saturday to urge African nations to cooperate and coordinate.
The two leaders discussed bilateral relations, emphasizing the strong bonds between the Egyptian and Kenyan peoples.
Ruto and the Egyptian leaders also agreed to continue consultations on all issues affecting Kenya and Egypt in the future.
“They discussed means to address the challenges faced by Africa and agreed to continue intensified consultations in the future on various issues of mutual concern.”
“They expressed their desire to further enhance the relationship between the two countries in the coming period,” read a statement from Egypt’s State Information Service.
Furthermore, the heads of state urged cooperation in efforts to achieve stability, security, and development for the African people.
This included looking into ways to address continental issues such as violence and political instability.
Furthermore, the two emphasized the need to maintain the ongoing coordination pattern, historical relationships, and effective roles in Africa.
Notably, this call came just a few weeks after President Ruto was scheduled to visit Egypt in June following his trip to South Korea.
However, the Head of State never visited a North African country. The reason for the change in plans has not been made public.
Ruto was scheduled to attend a dialogue on ways to bring peace to warring countries such as Somalia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and Sudan.
Protests erupted across the country, with Kenyans demanding accountability and austerity measures from the President and those below him.
Following the protests, the President suspended all unnecessary travel to save public funds, among other measures to prevent waste.
