CITY MORTUARY: Drama As Morgue Attendant Declines Unidentified Bodies Delivered By Police

Police officers were unable to deliver unidentified bodies to the City Mortuary due to a standoff between the Nairobi City County government and the National Police Service.

The county government insists that the morgue be filled to capacity, which is likely to impede police operations as officers transport bodies collected from crime scenes and accidents to the morgue.

The officers were left stranded for the majority of the day, forced to keep the bodies in their vehicles because they were denied access to the facility.

When the officers realized they didn’t have anywhere to take the body, they decided to return to City Mortuary at night.

However, they were again denied access. The junior officers had no power, and their superiors were forced to visit the facility. They, too, were denied access.

As City Hall would have it, there is no room in the morgue. They say the mortuary is full, with 607 bodies against a capacity of 184.
