TRUMP INAUGURATION: Melania’s Stunning Hat, Jill And Joe Biden’s Trademark Blue
Inauguration Day is all about pomp, grandeur, and photos.
The garments worn on this global stage—the color, cut, and details—are the focus.
From Melania’s eye-catching headgear to Usha’s fashion-forward outerwear, here’s a quick recap of some of the day’s most memorable looks.
Melania Trump
Melania Trump began inauguration day in an ensemble that had all the trademarks of her signature First Lady style: sharply cut, spiked heels, and a dramatic flourish via the headwear. It is both serious and stylish.
It also relates to her fondness for headgear, which has occasionally gotten her into trouble – for example, her highly criticized colonial-style pith helmet while on safari in Kenya.
Headgear have long been a mainstay of First Lady inauguration attire, from Jackie Kennedy’s pillbox hat to Nancy Reagan’s headgear during both of her husband’s inaugurations, the first “Reagan red” and the second blue.
A great honour to represent India at the inauguration ceremony of @POTUS President Donald J Trump and @VP Vice President JD Vance in Washington DC today.

While some hats feel like an afterthought to an outfit, others take on more main-character energy, such as Melania Trump’s today.
The brim is wide enough, and the contrast between the cream ribbon and navy hat is striking enough to attract attention upward – even if Melania’s eyes are slightly buried beneath.
Jill And Joe Biden
First Lady Jill Biden dressed in all blue on her last day as First Lady.
Today, as she awaits the Trumps ahead of the inauguration celebrations, she is once again wearing a purplish-blue from head to toe.
Blue is a very on-brand color for the entire Biden family, and it has come to signify the administration over the last four years.
Jill wore a blue coat designed/founded by Alexandra O’Neill for the New York-based luxury womenswear line Markarian to her husband’s inauguration ceremony in 2021.
According to reports, the designer’s sales increased by a factor of five. It was custom-made and embroidered with Swarovski crystals, and it came with a matching pandemic-era face mask.
Both Bidens elected to dress today in Ralph Lauren, the all-American designer whose clothing and backstory are sometimes associated with the American dream.
It comes as no surprise: Jill has been wearing his outfits for the previous four years and attended his fashion exhibition in the Hamptons last September.

Her husband recently awarded Lauren the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, making him the first fashion designer to receive it.
Ralph Lauren clothes have been an appropriate uniform option for the outgoing president.
As he leaves office, the White House website summarizes his presidency: “for all Americans, a country for all Americans, and a future for all Americans.”
You could argue that his Ralph Lauren suits are also made to include all Americans, never deviating from traditional blue and lines.
