‘I’ll Restore Our Lost Glory!’ – Moi University’s New VC Declares
Prof Kiplagat Kotut, the new acting Vice Chancellor of Moi University, has committed to working hard with other stakeholders to restore the institution’s lost grandeur.
Kotut was unveiled at the institution by the council, chaired by Professor Noah Midamba.
Kotut and Midamba addressed the university personnel, students, union representatives, and community residents who had gathered to welcome the university’s new administration.
“We will work together to rebuild Moi University back to the level of an academic giant,” he said.

Kotut reassured both staff and students that their interests would be protected by his leadership and the new university council.
He pledged that no student will be denied graduation in the future due to lacking marks.
“I know the work ahead is not easy. But I request that we all team up and work hard so that we all succeed by having Moi University back on its feet,” Kotut said.
He also vowed to assist with the local population at the main campus in Kesses, Uasin Gishu County.
“With the support of the Ministry of Education, the council members under the chairmanship of Prof Noah Midamba and the university community, I am optimistic about delivering on the work ahead,” he said.
He stated that restoring the university will ensure its ability to recruit both local and international students, as well as development partners.
“I will engage all stakeholders to ensure that we redeem the image of this premier university,” he said.
Kotut stated that he will be a team leader with an inclusive leadership style.
The chairman of the university council informed the institution’s staff that their January salary would be deposited into their accounts by Friday.
“Expect your salary payments for January this Friday and those who will not have received it by then, just call me,” Midamba said.

He explained that the university, which stands on 3,000 acres of valuable agricultural land, was self-sustaining rather than relying on central government subsidies.
The University Academic Staff Union ( UASU ) Moi University chapter Secretary General Busolo Wegesa and Kusa Kenya University Staff Union Secretary Mary Chepkemoi welcomed the acting VC.
“We are very hopeful that our new VC and the new council will deal with the issues that have been disturbing us for long. We will also work hard to rebuild Moi University,” Chepkwemoi said.
Wegesa expressed optimism that the new VC will provide the much-needed unity and harmony across all departments and stakeholders required to promote the rebirth of Moi University.
