RICHARD OTIENO: 5 Suspects Arrested In The Molo Activist Murder
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has made progress in the murder of prominent Nakuru activist Richard Otieno, aka Molo President, by apprehending five suspects.
In a statement issued Monday, DCI stated that three of the five suspects were the actual perpetrators of the murder, while the other two were bodaboda riders who transported them to and from the crime scene.
During the homicide inquiry, officers discovered that two of the suspects had previously been arrested for attacking him.

According to the report, the two physically assaulted Otieno on November 18, 2024, and were then arrested and sentenced to one-year probation.
This previous arrest was critical in identifying the two in the homicide case because they were forensically placed at the scene of the killing, and significant evidence was acquired to aid their prosecution.
They are all still in detention, awaiting arraignment to face the allegations.
Meanwhile, investigators from the Homicide Directorate, Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, and Operations are digging deeper into the case to learn more about the suspects’ involvement in the murder.

Otieno’s body was discovered on Sunday, January 19, after he was reportedly hacked to death with an axe the night before outside his residence in Elburgon, prompting protests from enraged Molo locals.
They attacked the mortuary where his body was being held and carried it out for a march demanding justice.

The dead was a young leader who was openly critical of local Molo and Nakuru political elites. Prior to his sad demise, he was also running for ward representative in the Molo Constituency.
Since his tragic death, fellow activists, ordinary Kenyans, and politicians have joined together to decry the murder, as his status as a government critic led some to suspect his killing was connected to his activity.
Even former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua joined the conversation the day following the murder.
“As we mourn the death of this promising young man, who was a great human rights defender and champion, we call for justice. His killers must be brought to book come what may,” wrote Gachagua.
