NEW LOOK: KWS Effects Changes For eCitizen Payment Systems For Parks
The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) is testing the improved eCitizen payment system, weeks after Kenyans reported difficulties paying for park services.
KWS announced Tuesday afternoon that the piloting has begun in three main parks: Nairobi National Park, Nairobi Safari Walk, and Nairobi Animal Orphanage.
Kenyans intending to enjoy facilities at any of the three parks located within Nairobi city were asked to make payments through the new upgraded gateway kwspay.ecitizen.go.ke.
KWS further stated that throughout the experiment, all tickets issued using the new eCitizen platform will be honored only at the three pilot sites.

Once an individual has paid the entry fee, they will receive a Short Message Service (SMS) message confirming successful transactions.
According to the Wildlife Service, the updated eCitizen payment system was designed to increase efficiency, shorten cycle times, and improve overall customer satisfaction.
Kenyans having trouble accessing the new eCitizen site were advised to contact KWS officers via the official email address customerservice@kws.go.ke or the official WhatsApp number 0726 610509.
“We will soon update the public on the rollout of the upgrade once we complete the ongoing pilot phase. For any further information, please feel free to contact KWS customer support,” KWS noted.
KWS first implemented the eCitizen platform in August 2023, and since then, most government services have been included on the platform, improving tax collection and government fund management.

Meanwhile, the new changes come against the backdrop of service disruptions on January 3.
The eCitizen platform malfunctioned, leaving the majority of travelers stranded around the country.
Tourists visiting parks were forced to wait for hours, even as the government increased efforts to restore normalcy to devastated communities.
The lagging system was ascribed to the high volume of transactions made by people attempting to pay for park admission. Those attempting to log into the system were unable to enter payment information.
