Mt Kenya MP Leads Residents To Storm Police Station Over Rising Insecurity

On Wednesday, February 19, Kerugoya Central Member of Parliament Gachoki Gitari led outraged residents of Kerugoya, Kirinyaga, to storm Kerugoya Police Station, demanding an end to the area’s escalating insecurity.

The MP led his people in demanding greater performance from law enforcement agents, accusing them of negligence in dealing with crime-related situations.

Among the points mentioned by the legislator and the outraged citizens was the release of convicts from detention under ambiguous conditions, which they alleged had considerably contributed to insecurity.

“A 13-year-old, in Grade Seven, was murdered in the Kithingo area by someone who is known, and the suspect is still at large over a month since it happened,” Gitari stated.

“We always hear of the long arm of the law. Has the arm of the law become shorter in Kirinyaga Central?” he added.

The villagers, who marched alongside their MP, complained about their encounters with criminals and urged the police to pull up their socks.

“We are suffering. I have been a victim of robberies, and the criminals who robbed me are still roaming the streets. I want the police to handle this immediately,” a resident complained.

However, the police were able to calm the irate citizens, who, despite their anger, remained quiet.

Furthermore, the police implemented strict steps to combat the region’s growing instability.

Kirinyaga County Commander Andrew Naibei has ordered that all events in the region end by 11:00 p.m. to allow authorities to combat crime.

However, the commander asked citizens to avoid taking the law into their own hands and to allow thorough investigations into the instances.

The latest development comes just a month after thousands of enraged citizens stormed a police station in search of a murder suspect held at Chemase Police Station.
