Sudan Issues Stern Warning To Kenya After Siding With RSF Rebels

The Sudanese government has threatened retaliation against Kenya over charges that it interfered in its internal affairs after hosting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a rebel organization now fighting the Sudanese army for control of the country.

Sudan’s Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Hussein Al Fadil, told media on Monday, February 24, that the country was considering imposing strict rules, including preventing Kenyan products from entering the Sudanese market.

Sudan, according to Al Fadil, would also file a formal protest with the African Union (AU) and other major international organizations to urge them to take strong action against President William Ruto’s administration.

“This is due to its interference in Sudan’s internal affairs and hosting events for the terrorist RSF militia and its allies, which target Sudan’s security, stability, and unity,” Al Fadil said.

“The measures will be progressive and incremental, and the Sudanese government is also considering economic actions, including a ban on Kenyan imports,” he added.

According to the Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Kenya, represented by President Ruto, has consistently interfered in Sudanese affairs and aided the rebel group since the crisis began in the East African country.

The Sudanese Deputy Minister went on to accuse Ruto of having personal interests and ties to RSF Commander Mohammed Hamdan, calling Kenya’s activities unfriendly.

Al Fadil further pointed out that President Ruto’s conduct violated international charters and agreements, including those of the United Nations, the African Union, and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

“Kenya’s claim of seeking a solution to Sudan’s crisis and its commitment to stability is a lie. How can Kenya host the very militias fuelling the war while pretending to advocate for peace?” Al Fadil stated.

Al Fadil’s remarks came just two days after the Sudanese rebel group publicly inked a political pact in Nairobi to consolidate its power in Sudan and seize control of specific districts in the war-torn country.

Meanwhile, Ruto’s decision to let RSF in Kenya has sparked criticism both locally and globally, with some accusing him of mishandling the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

The RSF and Sudanese army have been at war since mid-2023, with the conflict for control of the country killing over 30,000 people and displacing 14 million others.
