Kenya’s First Lady Set To Launch Milk Program For Schools Nationwide
First Lady Rachel Ruto has announced the commencement of a trial milk programme aimed at school-aged children across the country as part of a mission to invigorate and improve children’s health while they learn.
Rachel Ruto, in a March 6 notice, stated that the piloting will take place in Migori County schools in collaboration with the State Department for Livestock Development and the Kenya Dairy Board.
At this event, the First Lady will officially launch the school milk project, which aims to provide students with the nutritional benefits of milk in order to promote their growth and development.
According to the notification, the milk programme will begin on March 7 at 11 a.m., with sponsored milk distributed to schoolchildren in the Nyatike Constituency.
The Kenya Dairy Board will deliver the milk, as well as package it in distinct packages to secure it from unscrupulous Kenyans who may tamper with it for resale.
In addition to the first lady, Agriculture Principal Secretaries Julius Mueke and Joseph Motari, as well as Migori Governor Ochillo Ayacko and other county leaders, will attend the occasion.
“The First Lady of the Republic of Kenya, in conjunction with the Kenya Dairy Board and the State Department for Livestock Development, will Launch a pilot School Milk program in Migori County,” read part of the notice.
According to the Migori County Government, the event will take place at Isebania Mixed Primary School and Bondo Kosiemo Primary School as part of the Feed One, End Hunger Agenda.
Rachel Ruto joins the ranks of major leaders across the country who have supported the free milk project for schoolchildren, particularly those in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE).

In April of last year, Natembeya invested Ksh750 million to provide milk to over 41,000 ECDE children in 434 locations, as part of a campaign that saw the students receive free milk twice per week.
“I’m urging teachers to help protect this programme for us to achieve the intended objectives,” Natembeya advised.
“Let teachers ensure that no learner takes milk out of the school compound. This milk is meant for the learners and it should only be taken at school.”
