UDA Senator Blasts US Embassy For Issuing ‘Misadviced’ Travel Advisory To Kenya
Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana has disputed a recent US travel alert urging citizens against visiting Kenya due to security concerns.
On Tuesday, March 18, the US Embassy in Kenya issued a travel advisory, warning US people not to enter the country due to “increased security risks”.
In the advice, the US Embassy singled out Kenya-Somalia border counties like Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera as high-risk areas.
Tana River County and the coastal districts north of Malindi were also marked because of the ongoing threat of terrorism and kidnappings.
IT IS SHAMEFUL FOR US EMBASSY IN KENYA TO ISSUE A TRAVEL ADVISORY AGAINST TANARIVER COUNTY YET ALL STUDENTS IN KSEF ARE IN HOLA FOR THE COMPETITION- SENATOR MUNGATANA

“Violent crimes, such as armed carjacking, mugging, home invasion, and kidnapping, can occur at any time. Local police cannot often respond effectively to serious crimes and terrorist attacks.”
Responding to the advice, Mungatana chastised the US Chargé d’Affaires, Marc Dillard, claiming that Kenya, including the Tana River, was a hundred times safer than America.
The senator defended his territory, claiming that the US Chargé d’Affaires lacked the authority to identify Tana River as unstable because he had never visited the country and had no firsthand knowledge of it.
“Exercise caution in Kenya due to crime, terrorism, civil unrest, and kidnapping. Some areas of the country have a greater risk,” read the advisory in part.
“They have mentioned Tana River. I want to ask the ambassador, have you ever been to Tana River to say that it is an insecure area?” Mungatana wondered.

According to Mungatana, the advice was misinformed and intended to harm the county’s reputation. He also stated that the warning was based on prejudices rather than facts.
“Tana River is safe. If anything, you should be advising Americans, because America is more dangerous than Tana River by 100 percent,” the senator said.
“Here in Tana River, people live in peace, and nobody gets robbed.”
He asked the United States to look beyond misconceptions and recognize Tana River as a safe, vibrant region with enormous business potential.
