‘It’s Purely Political Intimidation!’ – Governor Wamatangi Says After EACC Grill
Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has denied claims made by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

On Tuesday, the EACC raided Wamatangi’s and eight other county officials’ homes.
EACC said it issued search warrants at the nine individuals’ homes and offices as part of an ongoing investigation.

After being quizzed at EACC Headquarters, the Kiambu governor stated that it was all a political witch-hunt.
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to taking the county to new heights.
“It is purely political intimidation; there is no reason why more than 50 police officers can wake up to my home and almost 200 deployed to various ministers’ offices in my government,” Wamatangi said outside EACC Headquarters.
“The reason is only one: they are targeting my ministers who perform because they want to make my government a failure.”
“I want to tell anyone who is seeking the governorship of Kiambu that it is the people who elect the governor, not the police.”

The governor claimed that individuals responsible for the raids on his and other staff members’ homes are terrified of his record.
He promised to quadruple his development record as governor of Kiambu and prove his critics wrong.
“You want to soil our names. I am not afraid; I will not be cowed nor intimidated, and I will stand by the principle that our people deserve a right in Kiambu County,” he said.
Wamatangi denied the EACC’s claims, claiming he should have been invited to the commission rather than having his home raided.
The governor further stated that he is willing to offer documentation to anti-corruption officials.
Following the raid, protests erupted at the governor’s mansion, with protestors waving leaves, singing, and dancing while demanding his release.

According to the commission, the operation is part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial and procurement malpractices in the County Government of Kiambu.
This focuses on allegations of conflict of interest, procurement irregularities, and abuse of office against senior officials involved in the awarding of a contract for the supply, delivery, installation, testing, training, commissioning, and support of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
The contract in question was valued at Sh230 million and was awarded during the fiscal year 2022/2023.
EACC stated that the operation resulted in the recovery of vital evidence material to aid ongoing investigations.
