Albert Ojwang’s Mother Shares Last Moments of Police Raid During Son’s Arrest

Eucabeth Adhiambo Ojwang, the late Albert Ojwang’s mother, has detailed their final moments together before his detention by police officials in Homa Bay County on June 7.

During his requiem ceremony on Wednesday, July 2 at Ridgeways Baptist Church, Eucabeth revealed that authorities invaded their home just as he was ready to eat food she had prepared.

She described how, at the arrival of the authorities, Ojwang began trembling as the cops expressed their intention to arrest him.

Eucabeth added that when she questioned her son about the cause for the police presence, Ojwang told her that he had done nothing wrong.

Eucabeth argued that the police could have asked Ojwang if he had any dependents before arresting him.

“They took my Albert just when I had prepared lunch for him. He had not even taken a bite of ugali before the police took him,” she narrated.

“When they came, Albert was trembling. I asked him what was wrong; he told me he had done nothing.”

“They could have at least asked if he had dependents before arresting him. Why did they arrest my Albert?” she decried.

Eucabeth went on to say that her kid was a decent person who never got into issues with anyone.

Ojwang was arrested by police for releasing fake information against Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat.

The National Police Service (NPS) disclosed that DIG Lagat, who has now stepped down, filed an official complaint against the posts, calling them defamatory.

After that, individuals thought to be DCI officers arrested Albert and drove him to Nairobi’s Central Police Station.

On Sunday, June 8, Ojwang died in strange circumstances while in police custody at Central Police Station.

However, investigations into his suspected murder found a web of police officials and remandees from the same police station as the primary suspects.

Following his death, widespread public outcry erupted, with Kenyans taking to the streets to protest.

The Independent Policing and Oversight Authority (IPOA) is currently looking into the case, which is also before the courts.

Ojwang will be buried on Friday, July 4, in Homa Bay. When Ojwang died, he was survived by his wife and son, as well as members of his nuclear family.
