Caleb Amisi Speaks After Joining Gachagua-Led Rally
Caleb Amisi, a Saboti Member of Parliament, has denied supporting former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his political ties.
Yesterday, July 4, Amis joined opposition MPs at demonstrations in Kitale, prompting some Kenyans to speculate that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party member had defected to Gachagua’s squad.
Following the incident, several web users interpreted Amisi’s move as an attempt to endorse the former DP as the preferred presidential candidate among opposition leaders.
“You should thank Gachagua for giving you such a huge platform and apologise for insinuating ‘he’s not an option’,” said an online user in response to Amisi’s post on the X platform.
In a rapid response, the outspoken politician and close supporter of Raila Odinga rejected the charges, emphasizing that supporting the Wantam movement does not necessarily imply a shift to Gachagua’s side.
“I repeat, Rigathi is not an option. Are we together? Welcoming WanTam to Kitale is not equal to supporting Gachagua,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The opposition leaders, including Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, Fred Matiang’i, and George Natembeya, traveled the Western region for their 2027 rallies, which have been held in several counties.
Amisi joined the leaders and criticized the continuous killings of youngsters under the present Kenya Kwanza dictatorship.
“The killing of young Kenyans must be stopped by all means necessary. We want our nation back,” Amisi said while addressing the crowd.

Amisi underlined that his attendance at the Kitale event was entirely non-partisan and part of his ongoing appeals for a renaissance, which he believes is much needed in Kenya.

While Amisi joins the opposition leaders, ODM officials reject and criticize the movement.
Gladys Wanga, governor of Homa Bay, denounced the group for using the platform to criticize Raila and the broad-based administration at Albert Ojwang’s burial on Friday.
Wanga, who is also the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Chairperson, warned the leaders to look for an alternative and more meaningful agenda instead of criticising Odinga.
“Leave Raila alone. We cannot have an opposition of scavengers and clueless fellows who do not know what they are talking about, and all they are talking about is Raila,” Wanga warned.
