‘Kakamega Not For Tribal Politics!’ – Governor Barasa Tells Opposition Politicians
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has warned visiting politicians against bringing ethnic or divisive politics to the county.
He advised them to emphasize unity and development over political posturing.
Barasa said it was sad that some politicians were roaming across the region creating dissension and inciting ethnic tensions.
He was addressing in Malava at the commencement of a rural electrification project in the Butali/Chegulo and Chemuche wards.
“Let leaders mind their counties. Kakamega is not a playground for tribal politics. We are focused on service delivery, not empty noise,” Barasa said.

He specifically targeted his Trans Nzoia colleague, George Natembeya, stating that he was attempting to export divisive tribal politics to his country.
“Let Governor Natembeya focus on his county. He should stop poisoning Kakamega with tribal politics. We are not interested in empty noise or political experiments,” Barasa said.
His response was a thinly veiled attack on Natembeya’s remarks during the opposition rally held in Kakamega.
The opposition demonstration, organized by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former CSs Fred Matiang’i and Justin Muturi, and DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa, included stinging assaults on the present government and its backers.

During the ceremony, Natembeya criticized the Raila-Ruto handshake and Barasa’s leadership in Kakamega.
“Kenyans should be allowed to criticise the government. Those people who acquired Mumias sugar, Nzoia and Pan paper, we are giving them a warning that when we take power, we shall reclaim them,” he said.
However, Barasa backed President Ruto and Raila Odinga’s working connection, describing it as a strategic collaboration for peace and development.
“We are here to work. This partnership is about bringing power, roads, water, and jobs to our people,” he said.
He emphasized that Kakamega citizens are more concerned with genuine progress than political theatre.
The project, which will initially target 152 families, is being supported jointly by the national government through REREC and the Kakamega County Government, which has given Sh30 million.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, who attended the occasion, hailed Barasa as a results-oriented leader and highlighted the ongoing projects in Kakamega.
Barasa also praised the county’s accomplishments in infrastructure, health, and education, and invited locals to enroll in the new Social Health Authority (SHA) and BarasaCare for low-cost health care.
“Kakamega will not grow through noise or tribal slogans, but through real work. We are here to light up homes, schools, and businesses. We stand for development, not distractions,” Barasa declared.
The ceremony was attended by local MCAs, county executives, and top national and county authorities.
