Media Council Thrown Into Mourning As Another Journalist Dies
The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has remembered the late journalist Nathan Gitonga as a skilled professional whose voice impacted the lives of many of his listeners.
In a statement released on Saturday, MCK praised Gitonga, also known as ‘Mwenda Nchamba,’ as a journalist who upheld the greatest professional standards.
“The Media Council of Kenya joins the family, friends, and the entire media community in mourning the untimely passing of Nathan Mwiti Gitonga, affectionately known as ‘Mwenda Nchamba’,” MCK stated.
“Gitonga was a dedicated journalist who began his career in 2016 at Meru TV and Thiiri FM.”
“His contributions to ethical journalism and community reporting have left an indelible mark. He upheld the highest standards of professionalism, earning the respect of his colleagues and the trust of his audience,” MCK remarked.

Gitonga was also mourned by Meru County Woman Representative Kailemia Karambu, who described the presenter as a unifier and an excellent storyteller.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mwenda Nchamba, a cherished media personality who graced both Thiiri FM and Meru TV with his voice, humour, and passion for our culture,” Karambu said.
The journalist died on June 21, 2025, after a brief illness, leaving the region and his faithful listeners in mourning.

Gitonga’s death adds to the increasing list of journalists who died in 2025.
They include; seasoned Leonard Mambo Mbotela, Edward Kwach, Njoroge Mwaura, Fredrick Parsayo, Nick Mudimba, Fofona Bangali, Silas Apollo, and Ben Ochieng Ogodo.
Their collective departure serves as a painful reminder of the unpredictable nature of life, as well as the important contributions these individuals made to public education.
However, the specifics of several of their deaths remain confidential or under investigation.
