Saboti MP Threatens To Quit ODM If Ruto Deal Remains

Caleb Amisi, a Saboti MP, has stated that he will not seek re-election on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party if the working agreement with Kenya Kwanza’s government is not terminated.

Speaking on Tuesday, Amisi stated that if the party returns to its roots and champions what it has always stood for, he may reconsider his position.

“I am a member of ODM, elected for five years. Until then, of course, if ODM continues collaborating with William Ruto, then I will not seek re-election on that party,” he said on Spice FM.

“But if it gets out and retraces its steps back to its roots, then we can now agree.”

The member went on to explain that there is a lot of confusion within the party and that it needs to decide which course to pursue.

He pointed out that there are supporters and opponents of the broad-based system.

However, from where he stands, there is nothing enjoyable about being part of a broad-based administration.

“ODM must make a decision now, there’s confusion even among its supporters, there are those who don’t agree with the broad-based agreement and those who say we have been looking for government and here it is on a silver platter, let’s enjoy it. What they are enjoying, I don’t know it.”

Amisi claimed that the deal takes ODM away from what it has always stood for and negates the sacrifices made by supporters over the years.

His words came a few days after he said that the Orange Party is no longer functioning properly.

The Saboti MP urged the party leadership to resolve the concerns as soon as possible, while also urging young people to respect party leader Raila Odinga.

He added that Raila should be appreciated for the democratic space he holds, even if their ideas differ.

“As we speak, we are experiencing ‘Disco Matanga’ in ODM. Basically, it is dead, we are now dancing, waiting for the burial day, that’s what is happening. Something must be done urgently,” Amisi said.

“Some of us respect former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as much as we don’t agree, you will never hear me abusing him because he has a space in history, but young people do not understand that.”

He added, “They will abuse him on social media; some of us do not agree with him completely, but we have told him to his face what is wrong. You will never hear us abuse him.”
