Embu Senator Disputes DP Party’s Summons After Muthende Support
Embu Senator Alexander Munyi Mundigi has denied assertions made by the Democratic Party of Kenya (DPK) that he campaigned for a rival political candidate, calling the allegations false and procedurally faulty.
In a response dated December 18, 2025, his counsel opposed the party’s summons, citing support for a candidate other than DPK’s nominee for the Mbeere North parliamentary seat.
According to his counsel, Danstan Omari, the Senator was notified of the charges while on official assignment in Uganda and was not given the opportunity to be heard before disciplinary action was taken.

According to the letter, Mundigi, the acting Deputy Party Leader, had planned to meet with the party’s Secretary General upon his return to the nation to discuss the allegations.
However, the summons was handed to his personal assistant at Parliament Buildings.
He claims that the party acted prematurely, citing Articles 9 and 10 of the party’s constitution and bylaws, which require key organs such as the National Delegates Committee and the National Governing Council to convene and pass resolutions on coalition participation and disciplinary action.

Mundigi’s legal team further claims that the Democratic Party of Kenya remains a part of the Kenya Kwanza coalition, and thus the Senator has the right to support candidates inside the coalition framework.
The lawyer argued that the senator has consistently remitted all party dues and has neither resigned from the party nor acted against its interests.
The lawyers also fault the move to threaten expulsion without prior engagement, describing it as an attempt to undermine Mundigi’s role within the party leadership.
The Senator maintains that he remains a loyal and committed member of the Democratic Party of Kenya and continues to serve in his capacity as acting Deputy Party Leader.
