Kenyan Wins Historic World Darts Championship Despite Wasp Landing
Kenyan darts player David Munyua has won the 2026 PDC World Darts Championship in Alexandra Palace in London, United Kingdom, making him the first Kenyan to achieve it.
On his debut on December 18, 2025, the 30-year-old beat Belgium’s Mike De Decker, a top-18 player and reigning World Grand Prix champion.

Munyua, who was already a winner, rose to prominence after winning the African Darts Group Championship, claiming a spot in the PDC World Darts Championship.
Munyua rallied to win 3-2 in his maiden PDC World Darts Championship after going behind by two sets at the start.

Despite falling behind early on, Munyua gained confidence as the game went on, showcasing lively celebrations and carefree dancing between throws that eventually won over the fans.
The Kenyan won the difficult third and fourth sets, prompting a thrilling final set that had fans on their feet owing to the dramatic nature of his victory.
After the contest, an emotional Munyua admitted he had not expected such a result.

Munyua, a full-time veterinarian from Kabati in Murang’a County, claimed that the competition was his first trip outside of Africa, making his achievement even more remarkable.
He said the victory meant more than personal success, describing it as a proud moment for Kenya and African darts.

By advancing to the second round, David Munyua has guaranteed himself a minimum of Ksh4.3 million in prize money.
