ODM’s Oburu Reveals Party Stance For Ruto in 2027
Oburu Oginga, a Siaya Senator and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, has stated that the party has yet to determine whether to endorse President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election or field its own candidates.
Speaking at the late Cyrus Jirongo’s residence in Lugari, Oburu stated that ODM will communicate with its members before establishing a clear political path based on collective decisions rather than individual interests.
“I am nothing without you. You are the ones who make me party leader,” ODM boss Oburu said.
“I can not claim to know everything, which is why we must consult our people. Once we agree on party policy, everyone must speak the same language.”

He emphasized that ODM’s power rests in the party, not individual leaders, and that the goal is to establish a strong and united party ahead of 2027.
“The importance is the party and not about me, as Oburu. We are building a 10-point agenda that will guide us up to 2027.”
He went on to say that the party’s top aim is to strengthen, expand, recruit new members, and get more support than before.
Oburu stated that closer to the election, ODM will determine whether to run independently or enter into a “negotiated arrangement” with the ruling party, Kenya Kwanza.
“When 2027 comes, we will either go into the election as ODM on our own or work with others we are currently together with in government,” he said.
“Any support will be through a negotiated arrangement that fully involves ODM.”
ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, for his part, stated that youthful leaders are prepared to take on the duty of advocating for accountability and justice, which he claimed are still core to ODM’s ideals.
“I said it doesn’t matter if you haven’t built roads, but if we are living in fear, we don’t want those roads,” Sifuna said.

“But I want to say this, there is no one who will remove me from the truth, and no one can silence me. Even if Cyrus has gone quiet, we will still hear his voice through justice being done.”
Since Odinga’s death on October 15, 2025, there have been indications of fissures in the party.
Some members want to break up the broad-based government agreement made by late opposition leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto.
Other members have expressed their commitment to the broad-based alliance, even promising to back Ruto’s re-election in 2027.
