After a disagreement on Friday evening, a police officer assigned to the Salama Police Post in Laikipia West Constituency stabbed and killed a colleague while injuring his senior.

Police Constable Victor Chesang Mengich, 42, was on duty when he allegedly attacked Police Constable Abel Kivoto Kimanzi.

This occurred during a tragic altercation, before members of the public from the neighboring Salama retail center intervened.

According to reports, Sergeant Wahome Muigai Muiruri, the officer in command of the police post, was at the shopping center when he heard the distress cries and witnessed the two cops wrestling from afar.

He raced to the site and discovered PC Mengich armed with a knife, just before stabbing PC Kimanzi on the left side of the stomach, sending him to the ground, where he died after bleeding profusely.

Sgt. Muigai, along with another officer named Morris Mugambi, made desperate efforts to restrain PC Mengich but was also injured in the process.

It needed the efforts of members of the public to subdue PC Mengich, who had gone crazy.

They handcuffed him and rushed him and Sgt. Muigai to the neighboring Salama dispensary.

The couple received medical care before being referred to Nyahururu County and Referral Hospital for more medical care. The duo suffered head and arm injuries.
