IEBC Announces New Digital Platform For Voter Registration
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has revealed intentions to create a digital voter registration platform in order to register as many Kenyans as possible for the 2027 general elections.
During a prayer breakfast on Wednesday, February 4, IEBC chairperson Erastus Ethekon stated that the platform was especially aimed at young Kenyans who are technologically adept and find it difficult to register to vote at authorized offices.
Ethekon stated that the platform will provide Kenyans with a preregistration form to complete before they are fully enrolled as voters.
He maintained, however, that in order to be officially registered as a voter, one must physically present themselves at registration centers and have their fingerprints collected.
@IEBCKenya today held a Prayer Breakfast Meeting with the Evangelical Alliance of Kenya (EAK), bringing together faith leaders and Commissioners to reflect, pray and engage on the country’s electoral journey ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“We are introducing a digital platform where you now have a link and registration form where you can fill in your details,” Ethekon stated.
“All you need to do is to walk into the next Huduma centre or Registration centre and just give your fingerprints, and you go.”
The program attempts to encourage more young people to register, presuming that distances and accessibility to registration centers may be deterrents for youth, and will take no more than three minutes.
The commission’s decision comes in response to Kenyan youth and civil society groups’ calls for digital registration to address poor young turnout, particularly among Gen Z.
The commission stated that the platform will be released soon, with the goal of registering over six million new voters before the general elections next year.
However, after the commencement of the exercise, IEBC registered low turnout.
The youth turnout remained even lower than expected, with some centres recording less than five new registrations in the first week.

The numbers have been increasing in 2026, though the commission still notes it’s not impressed with the turnout as it progresses with the exercise.
Recent reports indicate that IEBC has registered approximately 200,000 new voters in its initial phase of the exercise, ongoing in all the 290 constituencies in the country.
Due to the low turnout at the constituency level, the commission announced that it will transition to a nationwide mass voter registration drive in March 2026.
The mass registration will be conducted at ward levels in an effort to sensitise more voters.
