EACC Launches MAJOR Investigations Into County’s Ksh5 Million Housewarming Party

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has opened an investigation into the suspected misuse of public funds in Vihiga County, following reports that Ksh5 million was spent on a housewarming party at the County Speaker’s residence.

It’s learned that the probe stems from concerns aired during a Senate Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting, where members asked the anti-graft agency to look into financial anomalies highlighted in previous audit reports.

In addition, the Auditor-General has questioned some county expenditures, raising calls for accountability.

In letters dated February 12, this year, the commission formally informed both the Acting County Secretary of the Vihiga County Government and the Clerk of the Vihiga County Assembly about the continuing investigations.

According to the letters, the commission is looking into alleged excessive spending of public monies during a housewarming party at the Speaker’s apartment.

At the same time, the agency is looking into whether county resources were utilized illegally to fund what appears to have been a private function.

The EACC has already ordered the county government and assembly to provide original documents to aid the investigation.

These comprise financing requests, borrowing approvals, transfer confirmations, and, if required, evidence of reimbursement.

Furthermore, the anti-graft body has requested procurement records, including quotations, tender bids, evaluation committee minutes, professional opinions, and award letters.

“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched investigations into the alleged misuse of public funds following claims that Ksh5 million was spent on a lavish housewarming party at the residence of the Vihiga County Speaker,” the commission confirmed.

Adding that, “The revelations have sparked public outrage, with residents and civic groups petitioning the EACC to swiftly intervene to investigate the county officials and recover the funds.”

If investigations confirm that public funds were improperly used, those found culpable could face charges related to abuse of office, unlawful expenditure, or breach of procurement laws.
