“That’s Ours, Don’t Try Us!” – Ruto’s CS Tells Off Oburu After DP Position Remark
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has reminded ODM that the job of Deputy President is not available for discussion ahead of the 2027 General Election, refuting recent assertions by party leader Oburu Oginga that they are interested in the position.
Ruku emphasized that Kindiki remains Deputy President and will serve till the next election cycle.
Ruku was responding to Oburu’s recent remarks, which indicated that the party will strongly advocate for the DP’s position in the political arrangement with Kenya Kwanza ahead of 2027.
“Just the other day, I heard ODM leader Senator Oburu Oginga say they want the Deputy President’s position come 2027,” Ruku said.

He highlighted that Mt Kenya leaders accept the current broad-based government setup and are more concerned with service delivery than political negotiations.
“We want to tell him that from where we stand in this region, we agreed that we and ODM are in a broad-based government,” he said.
“We will continue working together under President William Ruto to strengthen national unity and ensure the government delivers services to wananchi.”
Ruku, who was speaking in Embu, clarified that the power-sharing structure does not include revisiting the Deputy President’s position.
“Professor Kithure Kindiki is the Deputy President now. He is the one who will remain Deputy President in 2027 and serve up to 2032,” he stated.
In a conciliatory tone, the CS, joined by Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, stated that ODM might be considered for the job in the future, but only after the current election cycle.
“If ODM wants the Deputy President’s seat, we can give it to them in 2032, when Kindiki will be President of the Republic of Kenya,” Ruku said.
“At that time, we can look for one of their members to become Deputy President.”
Adding, “For now, the Deputy President’s seat is not vacant in 2027. That position belongs to our son, Kithure Kindiki.”
During an ODM delegates conference in Mombasa on February 12, Oburu stated unequivocally that they would negotiate for the position with UDA.
“That Deputy President seat is what we are targeting very strongly,” Oburu said.

He contended that ODM’s nationwide popularity and vast support warrant its claim for a prominent role in any political coalition it joins.
He also asserted that the party deserves its “fair share” of governance due to its political power and supporter base.
Oburu’s statement contradicted his earlier assurance to Kindiki on the matter.
“We are not going to look for less,” Oburu said in Kisumu County during the disbursement of NYOTA funds.
“But, deputy president, do not think that we want your seat or that we want to remove you from your position. You are our friend.”
