[VIDEO] Robbers Impersonate Traffic Police To Steal Ksh1.9 million From Man Leaving Bank

Police are looking for alleged criminals who dressed in police clothes and robbed a man of Sh1.9 million shortly after leaving a bank in Westlands, Nairobi.

The victim, a finance manager at an IT solution company on Muthangari Drive, had taken out cash for office work.

He then walked to his car and headed to his offices. However, before getting to the office, an automobile obstructed his path.

Two men, one in a traffic police outfit, stepped out and commanded him to drop the windshield before forcing their way inside.

The attackers then handcuffed him and left his car on the road with the ignition keys turned on.

His phone was also left in the car as the two grabbed a bag containing the cash. They hopped into their car, which had made a U-turn, and accelerated away.

All of this drama was seen on security cameras in the vicinity. Police arrived at the scene and reported that they had opened an inquiry.

The cops also went to the bank to corroborate the identical claims. Such events are becoming more common in a variety of settings.

Police investigations reveal that some of them occur after suspects stay out in banking halls and monitor transactions before stalking and attacking their victims.

Last week, a former university vice chancellor lost Sh950,000 to alleged robbers in Nairobi’s Runda district.

The incident is said to have happened moments after he left the bank.

The professor told police he had been to Warwick Centre in Gigiri on February 4 at 2 pm and withdrew the cash for use to pay for works at a construction site in Runda.

He told police he was in the company of a site manager and they drove from the bank to the site and parked his car about 15 m away.

According to the professor, he did not know the thieves were trailing him. He said he had packed the cash in a bag and left it in the car.

After walking to inspect the site, he heard a bang and on checking, he realised his car had been broken into and the gang which had trailed him vanished.

The gang is believed to have been in the banking hall or had prior information on the cash transactions, police said.

The professor later confronted the bank officials, demanding an explanation of how the incident happened.

He protested the incident, saying he suspected the thieves knew the transactions from the bank.

Police were called to the scene and announced that investigations were ongoing. The incident has stalled the construction for now.
