Police Tear Gas Edwin Sifuna’s Rally In Kitengela During Linda Wananchi Tour.
Police fired tear gas during a demonstration in Kitengela attended by an ODM group led by Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino.
The incident occurred as Sifuna was introducing the leaders who had joined them to the ceremony.
Online videos showed dense smoke pouring from teargas canisters as locals dispersed for safety. It was unclear what provoked the police response at the event.
Throughout the hostilities, Sifuna was heard urging calm among supporters who had been angered by the police response.

“You will not disrupt our meeting,” Sifuna stated, moments before another teargas canister was reportedly lobbed.
“Why are you throwing teargas at us? Relax so that we can continue with the meeting. Stop threatening us.”
Following a clash between police and members of the public, the march was quickly called off, and media coverage was disrupted.
I must admit that Kitengela crowd was organic. Very important to note that ODM has not previously done well here. However, the event was mainly successful, with hundreds of people turning out to greet the leaders in Kitengela following a church service at St. Peter’s Orkeju Emunyak ACK Church in the same town.
Sifuna responded to the police disturbances, accusing the government of orchestrating them.
He claimed the police wrecked their sound equipment in the morning before teargassing them during the event.

He also thanked the Kitengela villagers for their attendance, pledging that the organization will not give up despite the disturbances.
“Thank You, Kitengela. Despite all the harassment, intimidation, and violence from this morning, you showed up,” Sifuna said in a statement on his social media pages.

The new incident is not the first time officers have used force in recent weeks. The opposition, led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has seen similar incidents at recent gatherings.
