Speaker Wetang’ula Forms Late MP Ng’eno’s Burial Preparations Team, Date Announced

The National Assembly has constituted an ad hoc parliamentary committee to coordinate funeral arrangements for the late Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament Johana Ng’eno, following his demise on Saturday.

Ngeno was among the six on board a chopper that crashed at Chepkiep, Mosop Constituency, Nandi County, on February 28, 2026.

In a statement on Monday, Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula announced the formation of the Funeral Planning Committee.

The Speaker tasked it to work closely with the family to organise and coordinate a befitting send-off for the late lawmaker.

I have appointed you to the Ad Hoc Parliamentary Funeral Planning Committee to support and liaise with the family and coordinate a befitting send-off for the late Hon. Ng’eno,” the Speaker stated in a letter addressed to members of the team.

The committee will be chaired by Tinderet MP Julius Melly, with Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri serving as the vice-chairperson.

It brings together members from both Houses of Parliament, reflecting the national significance attached to the passing of the outspoken legislator.

Senators David Wafula Wakoli (Bungoma), Wakili Hillary Sigei (Bomet), and Oketch Eddy Gicheru (Migori), who are part of the team, alongside MPs Julius Sunkuli (Kilgoris), Oscar Sudi (Kapseret), Brighton Yegon (Konoin), and Mark Nyamita (Uriri).

Others are Gathoni Wamuchomba (Githuguri), Kitilai Ole Ntutu (Narok South), Rebecca Tonkei (Narok North), Kakai Bisau (Kimilili), Joseph Cherorot (Kipkelion East), and Victor Koech (Chepalungu).

A representative of the family will also sit on the committee to ensure close coordination with relatives of the deceased.

Speaker Wetang’ula disclosed that the clerk of the National Assembly has appointed a secretariat to provide administrative and logistical support to the committee.

The secretariat will coordinate all necessary arrangements and oversee the dissemination of information relating to the funeral programme.

Ngeno, who served as the Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr Constituency, was widely regarded as a bold debater and an influential voice in the House.

His death has sparked tributes from colleagues across the political divide, with leaders describing him as a committed representative who spoke firmly on issues affecting his constituents.

MP Ngeno will be laid to rest on Friday, March 6, at his Emurua Dikirr home following consultations between family members and leaders, Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu has announced.

Governor Ntutu said leaders from the region have held several meetings, including with a parliamentary committee, to plan the burial programme for the six individuals who perished in a recent helicopter crash.

Adding, “We met yesterday and this morning with members of the parliament committee to oversee and plan the burial of our MP.”

We all agreed that the burial date would not be mentioned until all the family members agreed. The family has settled on Friday to bury MP Ngeno.”

According to the governor, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday at the Baptist Church in honour of the six victims.
