Kenya Met Announces 5 Regions set To Receive Heavy Rains, Nairobi & Central Lead
The Kenya Meteorological Department has called on Kenyans living in several parts of the country to brace for moderate to heavy rains for the next five days.
In its weekend weather advisory published on Friday, March 13, Kenya Met said rains would occur in parts of Western Kenya, the Central Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the South-eastern Lowlands.
In Western, the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria basin, counties that were listed to receive rains include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira and Trans Nzoia.
Others are Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.
According to Kenya Met, the aforementioned counties would receive heavy rains mostly in the afternoons, with the downpour expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms.
The afternoon rains would follow after a brief period of light showers in the morning and sunny intervals in the mid-morning, with Kenya Met noting that night rains would also occur in some of these counties.
A similar weather pattern was predicted in the Central Highland counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi.
Residents living in these counties were warned to prepare for heavy rains from Friday to Saturday, with the rains projected to decrease for the remaining days of the forecast period.

The weather department also announced light rains in the South-eastern lowlands of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta Counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County.
Temperature Advisory
Besides continued rains across the country, the meteorological department also warned residents of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi to brace for cold night temperatures.
According to Kenya Met, these counties would experience very cold nights of up to 9°C, with the temperature predicted to rise slightly to 11°C towards the end of the forecast.
On the other hand, the North Eastern counties of Warsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo were predicted to experience high daytime temperatures of up to 38°C for the next five days.
